UNIST ECE graduate students’ paper accepted at Symposium on VLSI Technology 2017

The paper authored by ECE graduate students, Min Woo Ryu (advisor: Prof. Kyung Rok Kim) and Ramesh Patel (advisor: Prof. Ki Jin Han), “Trantenna: monolithic transistor-antenna device for real-time THz imaging system” has been accepted for presentation at the forthcoming Symposium on VLSI Technology 2017 which will be held in Kyoto, Japan.

This symposium on VLSI Technology is the most prestigious conference in the field of semiconductor device technology with IEDM (International Electron Device Meeting) since all the global top companies are having a keen competition. This year, 10 domestic research papers (UNIST 1, SNU 1, and Samsung Electronics 8) will be presented among the total 60 papers.

In this paper, the circular-shape monolithic transistor-antenna “Trantenna” is demonstrated as high-performance plasmonic THz detector for a real-time ‘camera-chip-level’ THz imaging system. This novel device was fully integrated in UCRF nano-fabrication cleanroom by CMOS VLSI process. This work was supported by mid-career researcher (collaboration) program through the National Research Foundation of Korea funded by the Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning.
