NAND Flash memory who has been the winner of the nonvolatile memory (NVM) race in the last decade is now facing its ultimate scaling limit in two dimensions (2D). To increase the bit density per unit area various types of three dimensional (3D) NAND Flashes are under strong competition and several Emerging memories are joining the race. However, still none of them gains overall predominance nor shows maturity to replace current 2D NAND Flash memory. In this presentation, I will review the practical limits of 2D & 3D NAND Flash memories and also discuss the requirements and future directions for PCRAM & ReRAM with cross-junction type 3D NVM.
