NEEDs Lab’s paper accepted to IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation

UNIST ECE student Ramesh Patel, research fellow Dr. Min Woo Ryu and Prof. Kyung Rok Kim (with Prof. Ki Jin Han, Dongguk Univ.)’s paper has been accepted to IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (IF: 4.435).

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (TAP) is the most prestigious journal on the state-of-the-art works in the field of electromagnetics, antennas and wave propagation. According to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), IEEE TAP has 2018 impact factor of 4.435 and Eigen factor score of 0.04798 which ranks 11 among 265 journals (JCR top 4%, L1) in the category of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

In this work, an advanced analysis on a monolithic circular transistor-antenna design based on the NEEDs’ previous 2019 VLSI symposium paper (L1 conference) is provided, which confirms that a ring-type asymmetric field-effect-transistor (FET) itself can act as an antenna element that receives millimeter- and/or terahertz (THz) waves in a loss-less manner with a plasmonic amplification. The improved performance of the proposed monolithic ring-type FET-based circular antenna pixel is expected to provide the possibility of a mega-pixel-level detector for large-scale real-time THz imaging camera applications.
